1956 International Super WD9

Tamar Vintage Tractors - 1956 International Super WD9

*Now Sold*

Here we have a cracking original International Super WD9.

The WD series of tractors are petrol start, diesel run. This unique engine set-up was designed in the early 40’s when starter motors were not powerful enough to start a big diesel engine on their own and it also enables it to be started on a handle.

The ‘Super’ series were built up until 1957 and this one appears to be a later one.

The engine is started by using a carburettor and distributor rather than magneto as fitted to the earlier tractors, with a decompressor lever engaged to lower the compression and allow the engine to start on petrol.

The engine is an upgraded version of the WD9 rated at 65hp and is 5.7 litres!

Once warm, after a few minutes, you pull the decompressor forward and open the throttle up, this increases the compression, shuts off the distributor and carb and opens up the injection pump.

The tractor is fitted with full electrics and is easy to start, it warms up nicely and switches over to diesel with ease, it runs very clean and there are no signs of any frost damage or mixing of fluids.

This tractor is also fitted with power steering making it a joy to drive on the road.

The tin work is nice and straight throughout and it comes with a current V5 and is ready to be enjoyed.
