Field Marshall 3A

Tamar Vintage Tractors - Field Marshall 3A

We are excited to introduce this well presented Field Marshall for sale at Tamar Vintage Tractors.

The Field Marshal 3A was in production between 1952 and 1956. Just 2125 models were built with serial numbers ranging from 15207 – 17331. This particular tractor can be identified as an early model with the serial number of 16147.

This tractor has been subjected to a mechanical overhaul in recent years and the engine has been re-bored and fitted with a new piston and rings, the steering box has also been overhauled and it’s fitted with a new set of tyres all round.

The tractor is an easy starter on the handle, having started numerous Marshalls over the years, this one starts very well and doesn’t die down to a stop when its going!

It runs very well and pulls well in all gears. The brakes are nice a responsive too.

The engine block is free from any frost damage and the numbers match the serial plate.

Field Marshalls are fitted with a very distinctive single cylinder diesel engine, with its 6.5’ piston and 9’ stoke they produced around 40Hp and where renowned for their fuel efficiency when driving a threshing drum.

These unique tractors are started either by hand or power start using a power cartridge.

The Series 3 Range featured a 3 speed, 2 range gearbox, improved brakes (over the Series 2) and the engine rotation was also changed. The earlier models run counter clockwise, whereas the 3’s all run clockwise.

The tin work is in excellent condition throughout, the wings and foot plates are very solid and straight, the centre bonnet has been replaced at some point.

Being an earlier 3A it was painted green, the colour changing to Fowler Orange around 1953,

but whether to leave it, or repaint it, will be a decision for the next custodian!

If you are looking for a genuine 3A which is up together, then this is for you!
