John Deere 720
Tamar Vintage Tractors - John Deere 720
Here’s a rare opportunity to own a John Deere 720 Diesel – a mid-size tractor rated at 65 horsepower, built between 1956 and 1958. Just under 23,000 of these tractors were produced, and of those, only 13,930 were diesel models, making this a real collector’s piece – especially in the UK.
This tractor is powered by a 2-cylinder engine and starts via the original V4 petrol ‘donkey’ engine. The donkey fires up easily and starts the main engine without trouble. The clutch mechanism that engages the main engine could use a bit of attention – currently, it’s best to shut down the donkey once it's warm, engage the main engine, and restart. It still starts easily and reliably with this method.
This tractor has been part of several UK collections and is in very straight and tidy condition. It comes equipped with power steering, PTO, and hydraulic spools. The hand clutch engages well without slipping, and the brakes work just as they should. It has six forward gears and one reverse. The tyres are in good condition all round, and the tinwork is solid.
This is a rare and distinctive tractor in the UK and would make a fantastic addition to any serious collection. It’s full of character and history – a real piece of classic John Deere engineering.
