John Deere BN
Tamar Vintage Tractors - John Deere BN
This is an early example of the styled John Deere BN, known for its distinctive narrow single front wheel and adjustable rear axle width—designed specifically for inter-row crop work.
It features a 2-cylinder, hand-start petrol/TV0 engine, paired with a 6-speed transmission (3 forward gears with high and low range), and individual brakes for each rear wheel. With approximately 25 horsepower, the BN is known for its classic “pop-pop” exhaust note.
This tractor is best described as an older restoration. The paintwork presents well, and it sits on a good set of tyres all around. The engine and manifold are free from cracks or frost damage. The hand clutch engages smoothly with no slippage, and the brakes function properly.
We have a BN in our own collection, it is a quirky and enjoyable tractor to operate, with its elevated seating position and surprisingly brisk road speed! It’s lightweight, easy to maneuver, and boasts an exceptionally tight turning circle.
If you're after something a bit different and very affordable, the John Deere BN is a fun and functional choice.
