Here we have a genuine Nuffield Universal 4 fitted with a Perkins P4 engine conversion.
 
Perkins conversions were commonly carried out to replace the original TVO engine, providing improved power and performance. These conversions were offered across a wide range of tractor manufacturers and have become a desirable period modification.
 
This tractor is fitted with a Perkins four-cylinder P4 engine, which starts instantly from cold, runs very well, and is free from any signs of frost damage.
 
A particularly desirable feature is its original full-length sliding rear half shafts, as many were cut down during their working lives to allow tractors to pass through narrower gateways.
 
The tractor is best described as an older restoration. It comes with an envelope of photographs documenting the restoration carried out a number of years ago and has most recently been enjoyed on road runs and at working days.
 
On the road, it drives well with a good turn of speed. The brakes perform well, and the steering has a little play, as is typical for tractors of this age.
 
The tinwork is in very good condition and has been finished to a good standard. It is completed with a cast front weight block, giving the tractor an impressive appearance.
 
Overall, this is a very nice and quite rare example, ready to be enjoyed by its next owner.
