Tamar Vintage Tractors - Nuffield 4/65 Bray 4WD
Here we have a very rare tractor — a Bray-converted Nuffield 4/65.
The Bray company originally started in Feltham, Middlesex, before later moving to Tetbury, Gloucestershire. They specialised in building custom front axles and transfer boxes for tractors and, at the time, would have competed with manufacturers such as County and Roadless.
The Nuffield 4/65 was the last of the Nuffield tractors before the Leyland takeover, and it is reported that approximately 130 examples were converted by Bray. As a result, very few remain today, and they seldom come up for sale.
This particular tractor has come from a private collection and is best described as an older restoration.
It starts instantly from cold and runs very well. The power steering is fully operational and works as it should, while the tractor is remarkably composed on the road.
The tinwork is in very good order, with the paintwork showing some age consistent with an older restoration. There are no significant signs of corrosion to be concerned about.
The tyres are all in good condition. They do show some cracking, but still have plenty of usable life remaining.
The Bray 4WD axle is working as it should, with no unpleasant or concerning noises coming from the axle or transmission.
Overall, this is a very rare and highly collectible Nuffield, offering a great opportunity to own an unusual piece of tractor history. It is ready to be enjoyed and would make an excellent addition to any collection.
