SFV Vierzon 201 Comes to Tamar Vintage Tractors

Some tractors are common sights at rallies and shows, while others are so rare that you can go years without seeing one. The SFV Vierzon 201 certainly falls into the latter category, making this only the second example to pass through our hands here at Tamar Vintage Tractors.

The first arrived back in October 2022 and was a beautifully restored example that quickly captured people's attention. We even filmed a demonstration showing the unique starting procedure, and if you've never seen a hot-bulb tractor come to life, you can still watch the video over on our YouTube channel.

This latest arrival tells a different story. Rather than wearing fresh paint, it proudly wears the marks of its working life. Its original finish and honest patina give it a charm that simply can't be recreated, making it every bit as appealing as its restored predecessor.

A Truly Unique Piece of French Engineering

Manufactured in France, the 201 features a single-cylinder hot-bulb engine, a design that's as fascinating today as it was when it left the factory.

Starting one is an experience unlike almost any other tractor. Before the engine will fire, the cast-iron hot bulb in the cylinder head must be heated. Once it's ready, the flywheel is rocked back and forth until the engine comes to life. It may sound complicated, but after you've mastered the technique, it's a surprisingly straightforward and rewarding process—and one that's guaranteed to attract a crowd at any vintage event.

Small Tractor, Big Character

At around 1,200 kg, the Vierzon 201 is remarkably lightweight for a tractor of its type. It's considerably smaller than a British Field Marshall while offering a very similar driving experience. That makes it a fantastic option for anyone wanting something distinctive without the size, weight, or cost of some larger vintage tractors.

Its compact dimensions also make it ideal for rallies, road runs, and vintage shows.

Recommissioned and Ready to Enjoy

This particular tractor has spent several years as part of a private collection before recently coming to us. We've carefully recommissioned it and returned it to running condition.

The engine starts and runs very well, while the PTO and hydraulic system are both in good working order. It also retains its electric starter, although this will require some attention before it becomes operational.

Most importantly, we've chosen to leave the tractor exactly as it is—wearing its original working clothes with all the character and history that come with them.

Looking for Something Different?

If you're searching for a vintage tractor that's guaranteed to stand out, it's difficult to beat the SFV Vierzon 201. Its unusual French heritage, distinctive hot-bulb engine, lightweight design, and wonderfully original appearance make it a conversation starter wherever it goes.

Whether you're an experienced collector or simply looking for something a little different for the rally field, this rare machine deserves serious consideration.

The tractor is available now from Tamar Vintage Tractors in Tavistock, Devon. Nationwide delivery can be arranged.
